About this artwork
"Southern Coast" is a visceral exploration of the rugged meeting point between land and sea. In this abstract piece, Yaryna Shumska moves beyond traditional scenery to capture an "imaginative impression" of the coast’s raw power. The visible layers of paint and the dynamic traces of the artist’s gestures reveal the physical process of creation, mirroring the relentless movement of the tides.
A sophisticated palette of cool greys, deep blues, and… grounding black is punctuated by warm ochre, evoking the weathered textures of coastal rocks and sand. The artwork does not just show the sea; it makes you feel its roughness and salty breath.
This painting is a perfect choice for those who appreciate textural depth and expressive mark-making. Its rhythmic energy and balanced earthy tones bring a powerful, atmospheric presence to any modern space, serving as a window to the wild, untamed beauty of the south.

« I work with painting, performance art, installation, and dance. I'm interested in the research of spaces with human presence and looking for situations that reveal dual reality and ambiguity. »
Yaryna Shumska is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges the gap between performance and abstract painting, creating what she calls an "archive of action."
She is a prize-winning Ukrainian artist whose works have been widely exhibited on a national level, as well as in Poland, France, Spain and the United States. Her artistic geography is truly global, ranging from the Venice International Performance Art Week and Tokyo to Bangkok, Barcelona, and the Arctic Action in Svalbard. A significant place in her practice is occupied by abstract painting from the 2008–2020 period, which served as a foundation for exploring the canvas as a space for "inhabiting" action. In these works, color and texture function not merely as visual elements, but as mediums for internal rhythm and energy. These canvases laid the groundwork for her current practice, where painting is transformed into a direct imprint of physical presence.
