He is here, Uncle,
blue mask on child's face,
calm on the surface,
but his heart beats in the red and black chaos of the faults.
He grew up in a world of iron and fake gold,
where affection is paid for with a syringe or smoke,
where hugs become chains
and smiles, hooks planted in the flesh.
His skull is a nest of nails,
his thoughts, tangled in a crown… of golden brambles.
It carries the memory of repeated gestures,
of hazy evenings and broken mornings.
He pulls on what he believes to be sweetness —
a pacifier, perhaps,
but which feeds absence more than need.
Addiction: The Poison We Offer to Children
in clothes of distorted love.
The bottom burns, cracks, bleeds —
The fabric of his life cracks under the footsteps of memory.
And the Uncle, strange statue,
remains frozen between two worlds:
one who screams, the other who soothes... but
expansive, acrylic paint and spray can

Yavo Landry Komenan, a painter and sculptor trained at the Beaux-Arts in Abidjan and Marseille, fuses painting and sculpture through the innovative use of polyurethane foam.
