Aposperitis is the brightest star after the moon to be seen in the night sky. It is the first and the last star to be seen in the night and the morning sky. The star is Aphrodite or Venus and in greek tradition it is also called Avgerinos. The multitude of names are reflected on the readings of the painting which changes depending on how it is hang.
