About this artwork
I created this painting in mixed media, combining traditional painting with fluid art to convey a sense of freedom, speed and the irresistible power of nature.
The background is made in the fluid art technique, where the colors spread to form dynamic streams of snow. This chaotic, yet organic combination of shades of white, blue and deep blue conveys the movement of the wind, the frosty air that permeates the slope, and the unpredictable texture… of the snow.
The center of the composition is a snowboarder painted in a traditional manner. The contrasting detailing of the figure against the abstract landscape emphasizes the sense of the moment: concentration, balance, determination. The dark clothes of the athlete create a balance with the cold palette of the surrounding space.
The painting is about the feeling of flying, about a challenge to nature and oneself, about a moment in which everything merges into a single stream
YULIIA PORAIKO (PALIJ) Born in 1990 in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine Lives and works in Rochester, USA
In her artistic practice, Yuliia explores femininity, female nature, and its energy. Central to her work are themes of love, motherhood, and the importance of freedom as an essential element of the feminine essence.
She highlights various states of women in the contemporary world, addressing everyday challenges, self-realization, fatigue, inner contradictions, and the ongoing search for balance.
Through her artistic practice, the artist draws the viewer’s attention to phenomena that are seemingly obvious yet often remain invisible in everyday life, particularly within the context of female experience. Her paintings frequently speak through metaphor, inviting personal interpretation and emotional engagement.
