Amphorae: Songs in Silence - curated by Vivienne Yang

A curation by Vivienne Yang, Director at VillageOneArt - This exhibition begins with the vase — not just as an object, but as a symbol of offering, memory, and quiet transformation. In ancient rituals, amphorae held wine, oil, ashes, or flowers — gifts to the divine, tokens of care, or traces of farewell. They were vessels of both substance and silence. Over time, even when broken or emptied, they still seemed to carry something — presence, breath, history. Here, I’ve brought together works that echo that spirit. Some are lush still lifes, blooming with flowers or fruit, capturing a moment of abundance. Others show fractured forms, faded textures, or spaces that feel worn — like ruins that hold memory in their dust. Together, they form a kind of silent song — about beauty, loss, and the tenderness of holding. For me, the vase is also a body, a home, a witness. It contains what we love and what we let go.
