Out of Place - curated by Natalie Slater

A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - Each work centers a single structure, set apart and held at a distance. Houses, stations, and industrial forms appear without context, framed against skies that feel heightened or slightly off-register. The surrounding space is present, but it doesn’t anchor them. Cropping plays a decisive role. Edges are tight, backgrounds simplified or exaggerated, isolating the building as both subject and interruption. What should read as familiar instead feels displaced—detached from function, time, or use. These structures don’t register as abandoned or inhabited. They exist in a suspended state, where atmosphere carries more weight than narrative, and presence is defined by separation rather than activity.
