The faces of Emmanuel Akolo - curated by Rose Boutboul

A curation by Rose Boutboul, Independent Curator at - In this curation dedicated to the work of Emmanuel Akolo, I wanted to celebrate the quiet strength that emanates from each face and each posture. Through a palette of saturated and contrasting colors—deep blues, burning oranges, and sunny yellows—the artist manages to capture light in an almost palpable way, giving the subjects a magnetic and timeless presence. Here we discover a series of suspended moments, poised between introspection and sharing. Tender everyday gestures, like braiding hair or a mother's embrace, are juxtaposed with more solitary portraits where the direct and powerful gaze seems to challenge the viewer. What is striking is the attention to detail: the texture of skin, the reflection of an earring, or the gleam of a meticulously manicured face, all of which become symbols of self-affirmation.
