About this artwork
Several female figures sit on a gray-shaded abstract surface. They radiate relaxation and grace. The figures are embedded in gray, black and gold tones. Here many drawings were put on top of each other, partly blurred or painted over until the composition was finished. On closer inspection, you can see other nudes in the background, which makes the work very interesting. The face of the standing main character has fine features. A stream of copper… and gold tones runs over her body. Because different materials were used, such as acrylic and charcoal, the people have a different presence. What is particularly special about this work is the glow and shimmer that is created by the application of high-tech pigments. The effect can also be seen well in semi-darkness. The colors change from copper to gold. Depending on the lighting, the painting has a different effect. The edges of the picture are painted, which creates a three-dimensional impression.
« Each of my pictures should appear as if a little bit of color had happened by chance, formed into a composition in a miraculous way, but could disappear again at any time. »
Alexandra Hiltl is a German painter and draftswoman whose works are widely exhibited worldwide. Her art moves between abstraction and figuration and is not specifically concerned with botanical or physiological accuracy, but rather with the "atmosphere of the moment". The beauty of living things touches her deeply, and Hiltl compositions reflect an emotional imagery. Working primarily in watercolor technique, her artistic practice requires extreme concentration as she allows the color to flow along with concentrated shaping.
