About this artwork
The painting "Earth" reflects the magical atmosphere of a summer night. Several female figures, partly drawn one on top of the other, are located in front of an abstract surface in warm earth tones. The left part of the painting is lighter and flooded with light, in the upper part and in the face of the main figure there are golden dots like Stars. On the right are the figures in darker shades of brown. The work deliberately allows for many interpretations… for the viewer. By applying the paint to unprimed, brown and rough linen fabric, a very large one is created
Depth and a very special light. Glittering metallic pigments were used to create additional changes in different light conditions. The layered figures create dynamism and emerge more or less depending on the lighting situation. The edges of the canvas are also painted, creating a surprising three-dimensional impression when viewed from the side. The image radiates warmth and looks elegant.
« Each of my pictures should appear as if a little bit of color had happened by chance, formed into a composition in a miraculous way, but could disappear again at any time. »
Alexandra Hiltl is a German painter and draftswoman whose works are widely exhibited worldwide. Her art moves between abstraction and figuration and is not specifically concerned with botanical or physiological accuracy, but rather with the "atmosphere of the moment". The beauty of living things touches her deeply, and Hiltl compositions reflect an emotional imagery. Working primarily in watercolor technique, her artistic practice requires extreme concentration as she allows the color to flow along with concentrated shaping.
