About this artwork
The beautiful irises are in full bloom while the first drops of rain fall from the sky. As an artist, my garden is a great inspiration to me. Here I wanted to capture the atmosphere when it rains on the magnificent blossoms on a warm summer day. Fine, flowing glazes open up a wide color spectrum from blue to bright light green and purple. Effect pigments also shimmer in gold when light falls on the painting. By applying abstract plant structures…
in pasty oil paint to sprayed areas, I create tension so that the work of art has translucent and impasto, matte and glossy, muted and bright sections. The support is 5 cm thick and the paint flows over the edges, which creates an interesting view even from the side. In the studio I use only professional, very high-quality materials and make most of the colors myself from pure pigments.

« Each of my pictures should appear as if a little bit of color had happened by chance, formed into a composition in a miraculous way, but could disappear again at any time. »
Alexandra Hiltl is a German painter and draftswoman whose works are widely exhibited worldwide. Her art moves between abstraction and figuration and is not specifically concerned with botanical or physiological accuracy, but rather with the "atmosphere of the moment". The beauty of living things touches her deeply, and Hiltl compositions reflect an emotional imagery. Working primarily in watercolor technique, her artistic practice requires extreme concentration as she allows the color to flow along with concentrated shaping.
