About this artwork
Warm red, brown, and violet tones determine the basic tone of this painting. I chose an orchid in beautiful bloom as my motif. The stem entwines dynamically into the abstract, light-warm picture surface. The light-flooded atmosphere appears light and delicate, yet still very warm, thanks to the natural tones in the background. The golden patterned ornaments behind the plants are particularly beautiful; they become visible when the light hits them…
and shine in the light. The watercolor lightness of the blossoms is complemented by strong color accents and certain charcoal and ink strokes that give the work a clear structure. I particularly like these paintings because they appear very light and airy, have a warm and positive atmosphere, and are also very cleverly done.

Alexandra Hiltl is a German painter and draftswoman whose works are widely exhibited worldwide. Her art moves between abstraction and figuration and is not specifically concerned with botanical or physiological accuracy, but rather with the "atmosphere of the moment". The beauty of living things touches her deeply, and Hiltl compositions reflect an emotional imagery. Working primarily in watercolor technique, her artistic practice requires extreme concentration as she allows the color to flow along with concentrated shaping.
