About this artwork
Several female figures lie on an abstract surface. The canvas is only partially primed white so that you can clearly see the cream-colored fabric. The figures exude calm and relaxation. They are embedded in shades of gray and beige, in the background you can see more female nudes on closer inspection. Some women's faces are finely worked out and look very graceful. Because different materials were used, such as acrylic, ink and charcoal, the people…
have a different presence. The result is a moving and multi-layered picture, which nevertheless radiates calm. Thanks to copper and gold mica pigments, the painting shines very nobly when light falls on it. The thick stretcher frame looks three-dimensional.

« Each of my pictures should appear as if a little bit of color had happened by chance, formed into a composition in a miraculous way, but could disappear again at any time. »
Alexandra Hiltl is a German painter and draftswoman whose works are widely exhibited worldwide. Her art moves between abstraction and figuration and is not specifically concerned with botanical or physiological accuracy, but rather with the "atmosphere of the moment". The beauty of living things touches her deeply, and Hiltl compositions reflect an emotional imagery. Working primarily in watercolor technique, her artistic practice requires extreme concentration as she allows the color to flow along with concentrated shaping.
