About this artwork
I was commissioned to paint a large-format work of a newly renovated house. Since the renovation was a very important element for my client, as was the color blue, I decided to create a collage, further develop it digitally, and then create a single painting. You can see intermediate steps in the images, and in the finished painting, you'll see that many of these individual steps were incorporated. I was able to deliver the work on December 23rd,… after a year of development, experimentation, and painting.
Andreas Masche works as a draftsman, painter, and monotypist, influenced by extensive training at the Städel School (HbK) in Frankfurt and the Ghk Kassel (HbK), in addition to the Salzburg Summer Academy. His techniques range from precise, slowly drawn lines to experimental monotypes in which chance and inversion play a special role. He creates large-format line drawings of old, historic industrial halls. In his most recent works, he separates line and surface by drawing the surfaces on wooden panels and the lines on top with fine brushes as a separate layer. His art exudes a contemplative calm, inviting reflection on time, perspective, and existence.
