About this artwork
In this work of mine, which dates back to last spring, I fused pop art aesthetics with surreal and metaphysical elements, exploring the duality of modern identity. The subject inflates a rubber bubble, a symbol of dreams, fragility and lightness, but also with a hint of detachment, as if to say that life should not be taken too seriously, after all. This contrast between playfulness and seriousness, heaviness and lightness invites the viewer to reflect… on their social mask versus the inner self, bringing vibrations of introspection and color into the living space.
The work is made on cardboard mounted on a polystyrene panel, with steel hangers and nylon thread for hanging on the wall, although it lacks a frame (an element that doesn't excite me since it adds heaviness to a work that aims to be light).
After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, my encounter with the world of graphic design led me to move to Dublin in search of adventure. For a decade, I distanced myself from art, but it was a fateful encounter with a group of young rappers from the city's underground scene that reawakened my passion and need to create art. It was 2015, and at that moment, "Anguilla," my artistic essence, was reborn. My art is figurative, mixing pop art and surrealism, and seeks to connect me with another dimension, to peer under the blanket of the sky, to go beyond the limits of what is known. In 2025 my work was published in the art books "100 Emerging Artworks 2025" and "Women on the Rise - 3rd Edition" edited by Arts to Hearts Project. Since March 2026 I have been part of Sonia Borrell's Studio To Gallery artistic community. For more information, visit my website: anguillaink.com
