About this artwork
This painting springs from the small, unnoticed plants that gather at the feet of coconut trees after the rains. These weeds, often dismissed as unwanted, carry their own strange beauty of color, texture, and persistence. Even as they compete with the trees, they eventually return to the soil as nourishment. The work lingers in that paradox, capturing the delicate life that thrives in the in-between: harmful yet helpful, fragile yet essential, temporary… yet part of a larger cycle. It’s a study of the quiet companions of the monsoon, and the hidden poetry of what usually goes unseen.
Anna Tharakan is an artist with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts, working primarily in charcoal and oil paints, deeply influenced by her upbringing on a childhood farm. She deftly blends expressive realism with gentle abstraction, drawing on observational techniques and the tactile inspiration of Indian textiles and crafts. Her art radiates resilience, memory, and a reverence for the quiet strength of women, inviting viewers into a moving celebration of nature and the enduring beauty of everyday life.
