About this artwork
The story of this painting – "His gaze"
Initially, I wanted to paint a red fox at the foot of the tree. I had left an empty space, giving myself time to harmonize the landscape with warm tones and to think about how to make the animal stand out. Little by little, this space imposed itself on me, until it inspired me to paint a white fox—a creature that, I thought, didn't exist in our French countryside.
One evening, by chance I came across a video… of a photographer following a real white fox. It only came out at night to feed... before being shot by hunters, deemed a pest.
Touched by this story, I made this painting a tribute to this rare and fragile animal, a symbol of beauty and respect for life.
The title "His gaze" expresses this silent link between him and us - a gaze that questions what unites us: the mystery of life.
