About this artwork
In this piece, I poured raw emotion and chaos onto the canvas, using acrylic and enamel to create a vivid clash of colors and textures. The bold vertical streaks anchor the turbulent energy, while fragmented forms suggest a mind in flux. It radiates intensity and invites deep reflection, transforming any space with a dynamic and thought-provoking presence. This piece emerged during the creation of a 3-part educational documentary series titled "The… History of Psychology," particularly the second video on Freud, Jung and Psychoanalysis. In retrospect, the images seem a visual embodiment of what might exist in the unconscious mind. You can watch a video of this painting being constructed here: www.https://vimeo.com/338445619
Banning Lary, a painter and digital artist with deep roots in Venice Beach and advanced degrees in communication and psychology, blends ultrarealistic still lifes, evocative landscapes, and portraits with experimental abstracts called Catharcism. He masterfully merges Action Painting spontaneity with his own photography, pioneering the use of digital imagery in mixed media. His works radiate an intense pursuit of truth, beauty, and intelligence, offering viewers an emotional catharsis and a potent sense of clarity.
