About this artwork
The painting is dedicated to the sacred island of Delos, where, according to Greek mythology, Apollo and Artemis were born.
Among the various loves of Zeus, there was Latona, her symbol was the Night. Having to give birth to her twins, she wandered in search of a safe place, since Hera, the jealous wife of Zeus, had ordered that nowhere on the mainland could she give birth.
After much wandering, Latona found an island willing to host her, the… floating island of Ortigia, which wandered the sea as if it were a ship. Thus Artemis was born first, and she immediately helped her mother give birth to Apollo.
From that day the island of Ortigia stopped wandering around the sea, and since following the birth of Apollo, god of the Sun, the island was completely surrounded by light, it was, from then on, called Delos, from the Greek verb δηλόω, which means "to show".
Delos therefore became the sacred island, an important place of worship, around which, arranged in a circle (ἐν κύκλῳ), the Cyclades islands (Κυκλάδες) arise.
« It is important to work with love and constancy, inspiration can come in the most unexpected moments. »
