About this artwork
In this piece, I immersed myself in vintage realism to capture a quiet, intimate moment of reflection and solitude. The interplay of light and shadow on his figure evokes a sense of nostalgia and depth. Using acrylic and oil, I wanted to bring warmth and texture to the scene, inviting you to feel the quiet strength and subtle melancholy this man carries—an energy that will add timeless calm to your space.
Bert Heersema is a self-taught realist painter and a former paint technician (Paint Factory and Art Academy). Over the years, Bert has created over 80 murals for both private individuals and businesses, a truly unique and educational experience. Born in Anloo, Bert lives and works in Zwolle. He is married and has two children. Bert sold his work to many collectors all over the world, mostly Europe and the United States. Statement (short): By staying away from the actual reality around us, I try to evoke a nostalgic atmosphere. Atmosphere and space, which are not determined by all kinds of realistic details, but rather by simplicity, an often sober color palette, so that a certain color accent gets all the attention. And without losing much recognisability and realism, the work must above all be a beautifully painted work. This is for the experience and viewing distance of the spectator.
