About this artwork
The Wild West was known for shootouts and showdowns at high noon. Chicago is known for Al Capone. As Americans do, we commercialized these bad guys by making toy guns with little “BANG” flags that pop out. The classic Shooter McGavin celebration came to mind when imagining these paintings. I didn’t want to depict a real gun; we have enough of those. Plus, if I painted a real gun, I couldn’t call these paintings Finger Bang, which is a hilariously…
inappropriate term. Oh, and I wanted to paint a glove with fringe. I watched a lot at the Cowboy Carter concert, and the bandana wrapped around the black coat is a snapshot from Desperado, one of my favorite movies as a kid.

« "The more you do, the less you wait", my style is constantly evolving with each new piece I create. »
Bumpy Wilson (b. 1995) is a Chicago, based Contemporary Artist who creates highly personal paintings that assert his unique style somewhere between Pop Minimalism and Magical Surrealism. His oeuvre is subtly culled from the art world itself and most notably depicts cows, basketball hoops, and seemingly random objects. Through his art, he is able to evoke puns as art forms, providing a play on words for his ever-expanding discursive material.
