About this artwork
This work depicts a female back surrounded by two infant feet — a powerful symbol of birth, impact, and transformation. The piece emerged through my signature layered process: an initial charcoal sketch of the female figure and baby footprints, followed by handwritten text in Byzantine calligraphy, then gestural brushstrokes inspired by the rhythm of a dancer’s movement. Through this intuitive deconstruction, a new figure was born — the one you now… see.
The painting carries contrasting textures and depth, capturing the tension between vulnerability and strength, exhaustion and emergence.
(With the acquisition of this artwork, a handmade parchment featuring the original poem in Byzantine calligraphy is included. This parchment can either be displayed independently as a standalone piece or alongside the painting as a diptych.)
Christina Foitou, hail from Athens, mastering Fine Arts in Venice, oscillates between Greece, France, and dances with her brushes on mediums of acrylics, charcoal, and collage. Revolving around rhythmic abstract expressionism, the influence of Byzantine calligraphy contours her work, intersecting expressive abstraction with symbolic scribbles engaging viewers in an exploratory dialogue. Her abstract compositions, vivid with feminine vulnerability and strength, echo the fragile weight of being human.
