About this artwork
I think language is an incomplete symbol. Asians have little faith in language. Currently, Korean society suffers from great conflicts and misfortunes due to politicians, intellectuals and experts who distort the language. The Korean media is dominated by some nepotistic media that mislead the people by inciting far-right parties and far-right Protestant churches by resisting all the reforms demanded by the people. I tear a newspaper that distorts…
the truth with text, wet it in water, make dough and put it on canvas, and draw repeated lines with Korean iron chopsticks to make works. The process of making works itself makes me humble and nurtures my soul. I want to feel the joy of being with the community beyond selfish ego. Making works is a process of joy that escapes from the prison of language, transcends phenomena through thought and meditation, and fuses with a greater being than I am. This work consists of four canvases.

Daesun Choi is an artist based in South Korea whose paintings have been widely exhibited nationally, as well as in Japan, the United States, and Germany. His most recent abstract and semi-abstract compositions are made using newspapers, hanji, or paper strings. For Choi, the newspaper represents the secular world in which we live. However, he does not believe that this medium gives an accurate interpretation because of the inherent limitations of text language, whose meaning can be easily distorted.
