About this artwork

Artemis, in Greek religion, the goddess of wild animals, the hunt, and vegetation and of chastity and childbirth; she was identified by the Romans with Diana. Artemis was the daughter of Zeus and Leto and the twin sister of Apollo. Among the rural populace, Artemis was the favorite goddess. Her character and function varied greatly from place to place, but, apparently, behind all forms lay the goddess of wild nature, who danced, usually accompanied… by nymphs, in mountains, forests, and marshes. Artemis embodied the sportsman’s ideal, so besides killing game she also protected it, especially the young; this was the Homeric significance of the title Mistress of Animals.
According to Egyptian legend, which Aeschylus told the Hellenes, Artemis is the daughter of Demeter. When the gods fled to Egypt, she turned into a cat.

Daria Bagrintseva, graduated from Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Arts and Industry - one of the most prestigious Russian art universities, is an experienced Russian-born painter whose work has featured in exhibitions, publications, and collections in Russia, USA, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Norway, Denmark, Holland, Cyprus, and India. She has been awarded numerous national and international art prizes notably the American Art Awards and Milan International Art Award. Additionally, her paintings were acquired by the State Russian Museum and the Museum of Russian Art.

In her work, Daria explores a range of themes, from nude to landscape, Art Deco to abstract. Her artistic aesthetic is marked by intense colors and a sense of lightness.
