The photograph shows a nighttime scene on an industrial waterway in Szczecin. A structure stretches across the image, forming a sharp, geometric boundary between sky and water. Signal lights in red, green, and yellow dominate the scene.
The title Styx lends the photograph a mythological dimension that transcends visible reality. The waterway becomes a symbolic borderland – not only between shore and shore, but between states of existence.
The bridge… functions as a threshold: a place of transition, but also of control. It is not a romantic crossing, but a technical structure embodying order and functionality. In this context, it represents the boundary between life and death, rationality and the unknown.
The signal lights take on the role of modern-day signposts. Just as Charon once guided souls across the Styx, red and green lights here structure the crossing – permitting or denying passage.

David Söllner, a trained primary school teacher, expresses himself through painting and photography. By dealing with colours, materials and motifs, he creates a symbiosis between everyday experiences and the search for the extraordinary. His works are a kaleidoscope of positive colour compositions, darker moods or a dynamic mixture of both elements that reflect his mental journey and the crossing of his own boundaries. This creates an authentic world of feelings that vividly captures the fusion of imagination and reality.
