This new piece, "Remnant I", is part of an on-going new series expressing the devastation to Asheville's River Arts District from Helene, the violent storm that caused catastrophic damage to not only the Arts District of Asheville, but the entire Western North Carolina region. In this tragedy many people lost their homes, livelihoods, and much, much more. Sheldon is endeavoring to aid in the process of salvation and rebuilding through his own artistic… practice, in discovering renewed Faith, Beauty, and Truth in the aftermath of this terrible catastrophe. 50% of the sale of these pieces will go the River Arts District Donation Fund helping to repair and rebuild Asheville's River Arts District.
« My goals in art-making are exploring the nature of who I am, and my relationship to the world. »
At age nine, American painter and sculptor David Sheldon was hospital bound after a major operation and was given his first oil-painting kit- he hasn't stopped making art since. The theme of Sheldon's sculpture work revolves around the question, "Who am I, and what is my relationship to the Infinite?" Regarding his paintings, Sheldon works intuitively, and likes to constantly question his methods. Sheldon't futuristic steel sculptures and abstract expressionist oil paintings are fluid, bright, and intriguing.
