About this artwork
In this work I combine the freshness and liveliness of lemons with deep, rich oil colors. It is an ode to the simplicity and beauty of everyday life. Through the abstract background and the realistic depiction of the lemons, I tried to create a balance between dream and reality that fits beautifully into any living space and spreads an atmosphere of freshness and nature.
The making-of can be seen beautifully in the video.
"I am an experimenter - committing to one style would mean saying goodbye to my creativity."
Oil and acrylic are my preferred media. Canvas, Tetra Pak, fabric as a painting surface - anything is possible. Brushes, spatulas, fingers, street brooms, squeegees...
My technical-analytical approach tends to lead me towards a realistic painting style, but even in abstraction there is almost always something realistic to be found. My pseudonym as a painter is DLII (D as in Dieter, LII as in 52 in Roman numerals - my year of birth 1952 - Daily News as a statement).
While painting, I let the video camera look over my shoulder and upload these making-of videos to my YouTube channel (approx. 1.7M clicks). I describe my paintings in terms of composition, background story and technique on my homepage and in my book "Making Of - A Look Over the Shoulder of a Painter". I have chosen the combination of painting, video, and image description as my philosophy.
