About this artwork
In this work, I wanted to explore the idea that even what we call emptiness is never truly empty. Within darkness, there is movement, density, and hidden life—dimensions that our eyes cannot yet reach. The void is not absence but another kind of fullness, perhaps a place that shelters countless unseen existences. Through texture and contrast, I tried to express how presence and absence constantly transform into one another. I used glow-in-the-dark… paints to deepen this feeling, allowing the work to reveal a new dimension under UV light and capture the depth that lies beyond visibility. When someone connects with my work, I send a UV light along with it, so they can experience the full transformation and feel its hidden layers come alive.
My artistic journey began in the kitchen. While working as a sous chef in Oxford’s rosette-awarded restaurants, I discovered the meditative beauty of handcrafting and the transformation of raw materials. When the pandemic closed the restaurants, I turned fully toward art and found a way to reflect myself and my visions through creation.
Philosophy has always been close to me, and it deeply influences my practice. In my works, I explore themes such as the universe, existence, femininity, and the contrasts of nature. I use materials like acrylics, spray paint, pastels, wool, wood, and glow-in-the-dark pigments to create multi-layered compositions. With glow-in-the-dark paints, I invite viewers into three experiences of the same artwork: in daylight, under UV light, and in complete darkness.
