In this work, I have painted Her Royal Highness Queen Mary of Denmark. The painting has several symbolic layers, which among other things refer to the Queen's Australian heritage, but also her important work for children through the Mary Foundation in Denmark. Furthermore, she is depicted both as an individual in herself with warmth and a love for riding in her leisure time, but also as a figure bound to represent the royal house externally, where…
her own opinions are set aside. Here, the stiff, cold, and blue color comes into play and is meant to represent the institution.
