About this artwork
In this picture I am showing an abstract composition of dynamic applications of paint in blue, yellow, black, and occasional shades of red and magenta. The sweeping movements in yellow and black are reminiscent of energetic currents or grass blowing in the wind, while the lighter shades of blue in the background create an open, airy atmosphere. The dense overlay of the colors creates a feeling of movement, depth, and an interplay between foreground… and background. A building can be seen. The work can be classified as abstract painting, with influences from abstract expressionism. The gestures of the brushstrokes and the spontaneity in the use of color are reminiscent of action painting, while the choice of colors and surface structure convey a certain lyrical abstraction. The combination of sweeping gestures and sometimes translucent layers demonstrates my preference for an experimental, free painting process.
I have deliberately refrained from providing any personal or further biographical information. Esberg is a project name. It is not about real names, origins, or history – it is solely about images, colors, and textures. My work is predominantly created intuitively, physically, and often impulsively – with a palette knife, brush, and other tools; structure, contrast, and dynamics are central aspects. I understand painting as my own dialogue with the surface, not as the expression of a personal narrative. And ultimately, my paintings can and should speak for themselves and have an immediate impact on interested viewers. For me, the only thing that counts is the pleasurable desire to surprise with my art through the interplay of colors, shapes, and textures, to invite my own interpretations, and, last but not least, to avoid any boredom.
