About this artwork
Hoelun (aka Hoelun-Eke or Hoelun-Ujin) was the mother of Genghis Khan who fled with her son to the steppe after her husband, the tribal leader Yisugei, was poisoned by a rival. Genghis, then called Temujin, was still only nine or twelve years old at the time and therefore could not maintain the loyalty of his father's disciples. As a result, he and his mother were abandoned on the Asian steppe, left for dead. However, the outcast family managed to… feed themselves and live off the land as best they could. The Secret History of the Mongols depicts Hoelun as a strong woman who was able to bring her children together and make a new life for herself, her son, of course, creating one of the greatest empires in the world.
« My works are a hymn to life, the beauty of nature, and living beings. »
Françoise AUGUSTINE reveals, through painting, a vibrant universe where color becomes a language of resilience and emotion. Behind an apparent discretion, she has always nurtured a deep artistic demand. Her luminous and sensitive works reveal portraits of women and animals imbued with strength and tenderness. She combines controlled realism with intense palettes, marked by deep reds and bright yellows. Her painting is an act of memory, a way to denounce animal suffering or to honor those forgotten in history. Every painted gaze seems to cross the canvas to tell a destiny. Her distinctive style blends precision of line with narrative power. Françoise AUGUSTINE thus composes a world where beauty soothes, even in the shadows.
