About this artwork
Last September, Gregg Chadwick ventured solo from Southern California to Chicago for a show of his artwork in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. The 2,000 mile drive took Gregg across the western desert scapes of Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and Western Colorado. The espresso fueled hours brought back memories of cross country trips with his family when he was a kid. At night under western stars, his dad drove with the window open to keep him alert. Gregg… and his brother would scan the license plates on the trucks and autos around them, hoping to get all 50 states. The rushing sounds of wind and tires on the road muted their parent's conversation to a sort of road trip lullaby. Gregg looked out the window as if he was in a movie. Each passing place, every passing car played a role in his family film. Car: sky blue 1956 Lincoln Premiere
