Paris, Editions Georges Visat, 1961.
Album, 12 double leaves of Arches paper and 10 insert engravings, justified and signed (Denoël 41 to 48), folder and wine-bound satin case. V-print with the engravings printed in black on pearly Japan and including a suite on old Japan, in a fairly lively bistre tone approaching red + 50 copies on vellum with the engravings printed in black + XX with the engravings of which a copper is printed in one color and… the other in another color (i.e. a different color for each engraving).
The justification for this color print is handwritten by Bellmer. One of V copies, numbered with two suites of signed engravings.
Hans Bellmer, a German Surrealist, masterfully manipulated photography, drawing, and printmaking to delve into the subconscious. His style—labyrinthine and disturbing—played with the human form, dissecting and reconstructing it into provocative, dreamlike compositions. His works, pervaded by a haunting, erotic tension, expose a deep exploration of desire and the psyche.
