About this artwork
In this work, I wanted to capture the moving essence of the landscapes of the calanques of southern France, playing with abstract shapes and the varied textures of acrylic and collage. Each color opens a space of reverie, awakening tranquility and serenity. It invites you to feel the harmony between the energy of the shapes and the softness of the tones, bringing a soothing freshness to your interior.
Hortense Bataille, a painter trained at the Beaux-Arts de Caen and enriched by her years in the United States, works primarily in watercolor, oil, acrylic, dry pastel, and collage. She creates luminous works, oscillating between abstraction and poetic figuration, where her intuitive technique captures the spontaneity and energy of Mediterranean landscapes. Through her pictorial style, she conveys the vitality and power of nature, enveloping the viewer in radiant harmony, communicative serenity, and profound joy. Currently living in Marseille in the South of France, she is mainly inspired by this magnificent region, but she also works a lot on commission, on the theme of nature, gardens, sea views etc...
