About this artwork
"Prelude 1," by its title, evokes a beginning, the start of an event or what precedes it in time. The gaze that embraces this large-scale painting grasps a possibility of the continual creative process at work in nature and in art...
The ambiguity of the forms in the composition allows for free interpretation and a smooth and uneventful flow of the gaze. This invites meditation and creates a sense of serenity. The cold, dark colors absorb the gaze,… while the warm colors, placed here and there, make it bounce back and energize the visual experience.
And to make a connection with the music, this "Prelude" offers the eye a rhythm and even an idea of melody thanks to fanciful notes placed on imaginary and almost perceptible staves.

Isabelle Philips-Decramer is a French artist whose works have been widely exhibited nationally, as well as in Switzerland, Portugal and South Korea. For her, painting is self-evident, an essential language that she has been practicing for over twenty-five years. Isabelle Philips-Decramer first painted outdoor landscapes in watercolor, then portraits and still lifes. Then she felt the need to free herself from known, imposed and defined forms. An abstract pictorial universe emerged on large formats and in oil. After a long period of abstraction, she returned to figuration transformed by her research from the past period.
