About this artwork
The textures in this painting hint at the boundary between sea and sky. The painting leaves room for interpretation, allowing viewers to find their own narratives within the abstract forms and colors. Emotionally, the piece is meant to evoke serenity, contemplation, and a sense of vastness—qualities often associated with open sea and sky.
Jean is a mixed media artist whose creative process is intuitive and organic. Through subtracting and adding visual elements she attempts to create a sense of balance, by creating a visual space for quiet contemplation and discovery. It’s about re-imaging shapes to communicate ideas and feelings. The interplay of negative space and positive shapes becomes a dialogue, inviting the viewer to contemplate the relationship between the two.
Jean's work has been featured widely, including as cover art for a volume of Lord Tennyson's poetry - published in Italy - and an award-winning contemporary poetry volume - published in the United States. Her work has been accepted into a number of juried exhibitions. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Jean teaches mixed media classes online.
