About this artwork
Once upon a time, there was a dilapidated building, in ruins, but where fragments of azulejos tiles could still be seen. What stories do these ruins tell? What historical moments have they witnessed? How many generations have these walls sheltered?
In this textile work, I wanted to capture the essence of time through fragmented geometric patterns, like vestiges of a rediscovered past. The embroidered wool creates a rich texture, evoking both strength… and fragility. Hang it up and feel the vibrant energy of a story that transcends the modern and the ancient, inviting contemplation.

Joana Rombo, a self-taught artist, works primarily with wool and various plant fibers, exploring textile art without formal fine arts training. She favors weaving, cross-stitch, and knotted stitch, constantly experimenting with colors, textures, and dimensions on canvas, while valuing often-disregarded materials. Through her works, she evokes the beauty that emerges from the unfinished, the imperfect, and the raw, inspiring a profound reflection on the duality between beauty and ugliness, the complete and the incomplete.
