About this artwork

Painting white chickens is a daunting task. First of all the white, which upon further examination is never really white. It's a combo of white and yellow, white and blue, white and green, white and purple, white and pink, and white and you name it. Then, there is the movement. The darn chickens are always moving, so painting them standing still would be a lie. How to capture movement in a painting? The artist relied on her joy and the exuberance… of the subject to impart the sense of a sunny day and the joy of movement to the painting with color, edges and impasto paint. Note the myriad of colors in the shadows and light areas of the painting.
