About this artwork
In creating this artwork, I delved into the realms of the abstract and semi-abstract, using acrylic and oil to capture the essence of time-worn beauty. It's an exploration of decay and renewal, illustrated through textured layers and a spectrum of deep blues fading into fiery oranges. This piece embodies a vintage spirit infused with a modern sense of transformation—perfect for bringing a captivating and emotionally rich atmosphere to any space.… I begin by digitally blending all kinds of pictures, and after printing the result, I create massive structures on top of the result and finish the piece by painting every detail with water-based oil paint. In this way, digital becomes tangible again. The abstract paintings are one-off artworks mounted on a high-quality 3D aluminum frame.

« I combine the digital and tangible, so I combine two worlds together. »
Karin Vermeer is an independent artist who has lived and worked in Rotterdam since 2002. Her works are created by digitally combining and editing photographs and paintings into new, original works of art. Vermeer specializes in portraits created by overlaying and blending four to five different faces, of different race and origin, to create a new, non existing person. The digital images are printed and paint is added to achieve the final result: an attempt to make a digital image tangible once again.
