About this artwork
This painting almost didn’t happen! Even though I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy, the stories usually deal with the future or an alternate universe. And painting those ideas don't interest me. But when I saw Simon Stalenhag’s book and the Amazon video series, ‘Tales From The Loop’, I realized, science fiction could create an alternate past as well. What if in an alternate past, fusion reactors were created. But some of them didn’t live… up their potential and were left to rust away. Years later some intrepid surfers discovered the abandoned reactor that in concert with the ocean, sand and tide had created an excellent wave just as abandoned shipwrecks do in our present day. Never stop looking for that perfect wave!
Embracing 'Narrative Realism,' Lawrence McAdams brings 20 years of surfing passions to canvas with traditional paint, his California roots deeply entrenched in each brushstroke. He skillfully manipulates color and perspective, often blending the onrush of the sea with human spirit and introspection, capturing the elusive stories of life's grand tapestry. His art resonates with the enchantment of adventure, the ache of longing, and the sublime grace of the world's natural beauty.
