About this artwork
The image of a contrast without chiaroscuro and based on a twilight backlight came to me as I was driving through the countryside listening to music by Richard Wagner. I wanted to produce an atmosphere tinted with a certain density and so I used very little water to achieve the blends, the glazes were only used for the transitions from dark masses to light areas. For me, music is the intrinsically abstract counterpart of painting, it is its indispensable…
complement, whether for the person contemplating the work or for the person creating it. It is common for me to associate shapes and colors with the sounds I hear. Sometimes these are slightly blurred landscapes that I try to render more clearly while retaining the emotion that gave rise to them.

Luc Andrieux is an artist based in France whose works have been presented in several solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally. For him, painting is like a vital necessity. Through his compositions, Andrieux's goal is to generate a questioning contemplation, to freeze time and to induce an atmosphere suggested by the hidden face of the elements. His abstractions, landscapes and figurative works are most often created using acrylics on canvas, oil being reserved for the treatment of more complex effects. Luc Andrieux does not limit himself to a particular style or theme that would limit his expression but chooses those that are most in line with his vision of the moment.
