About this artwork
"This painting is part of a series consisting of three works – Jin, Jiyan, Azadi. A tribute to the Kurdish movement for women's rights, life and freedom."
Created simultaneously, Jin, which means 'woman', is a work that radiates both depth and joy. It reflects the light and dark sides of the female soul, its strength and its vulnerability, which are visible side by side.
The image invites reflection on strength as well as gentleness, allowing feelings… to flow through the body and creating from inner reflection.”
Maria Koch (1988, former GDR), a self-taught artist living in Berlin with a degree in International Management (BA) and roots in archaeology and art history, paints, creates installations, performances and videos that are strongly influenced by her East German upbringing and her interdisciplinary studies.
Her technique is intuitive and process-oriented. She combines natural pigments and organic textures with minimalist silhouettes, fluidly shifting between raw expressiveness and poetic subtlety. By translating personal and collective experiences of change into poetic imagery, her works speak quietly yet with profound resonance – of alienation and renewal, fragility and strength, and the silent spaces in between where transformation begins.
