About this artwork
'Empty Dreams' is a part of the 'Heart Metamorphosis' series of watercolor paintings, which explores the shifting phases of grief, heartbreak, and healing. In this work, a surreal fusion of human anatomy (the heart) and an inanimate seashell creates a visual metaphor for numbness and emptiness born of great emotional turmoil. Once vibrant and full of emotions, the heart has hardened as an empty seashell. Hollow, brittle, and haunted by the whispers… of past illusions and broken dreams.
Painted with natural, handmade earth pigment watercolors on recycled cotton paper.
Marija is a visual artist and art therapy practitioner whose work explores the healing power of the creative process. Her paintings are deeply personal, made through quiet rituals of introspection and the uncovering of raw emotions. Each piece begins as an honest dialogue with the self, a meditative journey into buried emotions or thoughts that seek recognition, release, and transformation. Through her ongoing studies and practice in art therapy, she continues to explore the transformative potential of the creative process, not only as a personal path but as a means of supporting others on their own journeys. The artist believes that creative expression and environmental responsibility are not only compatible but mutually enriching. With a deep respect for nature, she works with high-quality, natural, and eco-friendly paint made from earth and plant pigments. Through this approach, she honors the materials themselves as collaborators in the creative process.
