About this artwork
In this work, I expressed the interplay of light and dark. A work from the "Square" series, which the artist created in 2016. The dominant feature is the reduction of color; it is almost black and white.

From delicate to powerful, pure, unadulterated, direct. Reminiscent of calligraphic marks, poised between music and space, from chaos to stillness and back again – this is the language of painting that is unique to the artist Monika Herschberger. Coming from a jazz background, her focus shifted to abstract painting in 2009, where she continues to expand her expressive repertoire. In addition to gestural, powerful, large-format paintings on canvas, the artist has been working with mixed media on paper since 2019, using pencils and pastels to penetrate areas of color and deliberately add graphic accents.
