About this artwork
“Raw Instinct” is not a depiction of an animal, but a reflection on desire in its most primal form. The motif serves as a projection screen for what drives us, the immediate, the uncontrolled, that defies all rationality.
The fragmented, intense color fields deliberately break with reality and refer to emotional states rather than outward appearances. Desire is not shown here as something concrete, but as an inner tension, a state between longing… and awareness.
The gaze appears alert, almost reflective, and contrasts with what we interpret as instinct. It is precisely in this contradiction that the work's central message emerges: that desire is not merely raw, but simultaneously permeated by perception, control, and identity.
“Raw Instinct” moves between control and loss of control, and poses the question of whether we truly control our instincts or whether they define us.
Natalie Milosevic Abbo is a Frankfurt-born painter of Iraqi-German descent who primarily works with acrylics on canvas. She develops her pieces using her own unique wiping and spatula technique, experimenting between figurative painting and expressive color, incorporating intuition and emotion. Her paintings move between reality and abstraction, reflecting both inner and outer worlds. Her art conveys joy, positive energy, and inspiration, inviting contemplation and leaving room for personal interpretation.
