About this artwork
From one side the marathon means a sport competition, a race for long distances during fixed period of time, but from the other hand the meaning of this word is much deeper. Symbolically the marathon specifies the long process, the way, even the whole life. During this period, a man is going forwards his goal, overcoming all obstacles. The author Perto Hrytsiuk (Ukraine) wanted to show that this way is not be easy and everyone will face the difficulties,…
the contestants or even the adversaries, but we all have to continue the road race and not to stop. The real marathon players should not give up, as they go surely and calmly to the reward, to their main vocation. Each of us can see our own associations in the forged installation and extend the boundaries of the “marathon” word meaning.

Petro Hrytsiuk is a young talent from Ukraine whose works have been featured in exhibitions nationally. Working as both a painter and a sculptor, he creates kinetic installations out of steel that create visual effects through various techniques of welding and heating of the layers.
