About this artwork
I often us a paper palette to make a painting. When I am finished with the work that was for that particular painting I use that palette as the beginning of the next painting. in this case the relations presented from the pallets are re-presented in the over-all painting.
Raymond Grist is a painter and printmaker deeply influenced by Harlem’s vibrant creative scene and the energy of jazz, with formal training from renowned art institutions and long study under master printmaker Mohammad Khalil. His technique fuses expressive non-objective art with contemporary still life and landscape, using dynamic forms and vibrant colors to echo the rhythms and structural interplay of jazz. Grist’s artworks exude a palpable sense of aliveness, inviting viewers to experience excitement, wonder, and the enduring question: "What is a painting?"
