About this artwork
Vancouver’s Central Library, an iconic building to the city, offers an impressive blend of past and modernism. This Coliseum inspired cultural building was designed, back in the 1990’s, by Moshe Safdie and local architects Richard Archambault and Barry Downs. It has become the pride of the public. Altogether, the Library Square building occupies an entire city block of downtown Vancouver.

« My paintings reflect my love of architecture, be it breathtaking towers or ancient constructions. Buildings are an important testimonial of our presence on earth, and my artwork is about this presence. »
Renee De Gagne is an experienced Canadian painter who has exhibited her work throughout North America. She primarily explores architecture as an expressive statement of urban dynamics, and artistically captures the energy of cities through works marked by warm color palettes and a dance between the abstract and figurative. She paints instinctively, and always keeps memories, stories, histories and pictures of cities in her mind.
