About this artwork
A paper boat always has something childlike about it for me.
Something hopeful.
And at the same time, something fragile.
These small boats have repeatedly appeared in my pictures over the past few years –
Sometimes in a supporting role, sometimes as the main actor.
Here I allowed myself a little joke:
The ship is folded from a tax bill.
Perhaps that's exactly what art is sometimes allowed to do –
To make something easy out of something… heavy.
Bureaucracy becomes an adventure.
A piece of freedom from numbers.
I'll get my tax assessment notice at some point.

The little smiley face in the background?
He already knows where this is headed.
