About this artwork
AMOR VINCIT, or "Love conquers," is a metaphor for the painting, focused on humanity's most essential and enduring quality.
I've threaded together elements of digital surrealism with symbolic undertones to explore the complexities of our human connections and loss. Against a backdrop of our allegorical techno-feudal existence the juxtaposed, fragmented dynamic human forms suggest a narrative of timeless quests. The interplay of fate and love is… overlayed with a digital diagram of our journeys whilst the accordion-style canvas conveys separation. With its unique structure and symbolism, the painting mediates the human experience, inviting us to contemplate the enduring power of love amidst our lives' struggles and inevitable losses.
The work is painted on seven hinged panels that form an accordion screen to be placed on the floor or wall.
Robert Inestroza employs oil paints with innovative materials like resin, sand, and fabric for his dynamic canvases and figurative sculptures. He experiments with contrasting techniques - layering, scraping, sculptural cold wax impasto, airbrush, and abstract flourishes focusing on movement and energy. His work merges past, present and future. Themes of identity, art history, social commentary, and technology form contemplative and surreal experiences of modern human life such as love, loss, joy and isolation - offering works of solace, solidarity and connection with the viewer.
