About this artwork
In this piece, I imagined a lone survivor wandering through the haunting silence of a nuclear winter. Although the context suggests destruction and desolation, the scene is bathed in an otherworldly glow — as if nature, despite everything, insists on remaining sublime.
The snow-covered forest, painted in deep blues and ghostly yellows, becomes a paradox: a graveyard of life, yet a space of visual serenity. The work speaks of the strange beauty found… in desolation, the quiet dignity of survival, and the fragile peace that follows chaos.
The solitary figure is not merely walking through snow — he carries memory, sorrow, and endurance through the frozen light of a new, unrecognizable world. This painting is a meditation on human resilience, on how we carry meaning through ruins — and how even the coldest silence can give birth to an unexpected grace.
Saša Čertanc also known by the artist name ArtbySakidePaco is a Croatian visual artist known for his dual approach to landscape painting — merging the poetic with the conceptual. His series “Anatomy of Nature” explores the meditative essence of classical landscapes, while “Anatomy of Altered Nature” transforms them into symbolic, dreamlike scenes that question perception and emotion.
Self-taught yet refined, Čertanc paints not what is seen but what is felt — the stillness, the longing, the unseen beyond the horizon. His glowing light, tonal contrasts, and ethereal color define a visual language both intimate and transcendental.
His works have been exhibited internationally, including Carrousel du Louvre, Paris, and MECC Maastricht, Netherlands, earning multiple distinctions across Europe and the USA, including first-place, finalist, and honorable mentions from institutions in France, the UK, the USA, and Slovenia. Čertanc’s paintings are held in private collections worldwide.
